About the GoodWorks Youth Awards?

The second annual GoodWorks Youth Awards will be held on Thursday, August 5 from 6-9pm at the Mint Museum (2730 Randolph Road). The awards, an initiative of GoodWorks Media Group, honor middle and high school youth for their good works in the area of education, diversity and the environment.

Criteria

Nominations will be accepted in three categories:

Environment—creating a better and more sustainable environment

Education– enhancing or developing effective educational efforts

Diversity—creating or sustaining initiatives that promote and advance the spirit and concept of diversity and inclusion

All nominees:

    1. Must live in Cabarrus, Iredell, Gaston, Mecklenburg, Union, or York (South Carolina) County

    2. Must be a current middle or high school student

    3. Must have initiated the work being recognized

The initiatives:

  • Must be implemented between June 2009 and May 2010
  • Must not solely benefit a family member
  • Must have a demonstrable impact
  • Must be able to be replicated
  • Must be original

Judging

Nominations will be judged on the following:

  • Extent to which the project was designed, coordinated and implemented due to the young person's (or persons' ) initiative
  • Need for the project and appropriateness
  • Positive impact on the local community and society, and the long-term benefits derived from the project
  • Whether the goals were achieved
  • Positive ways in which other groups or individuals were involved to provide funds, resources, or publicity
  • Project innovation
  • Soundness of approach, rationale and scientific design (if applicable)

The deadline for nominations is 11:59 PM/EST on Wednesday, July 14.

Finalists will be notified on July 16 and interviews will be held the week of July 19.

    Vincent Golden—Nathaniel Alexander Elementary
  • Company/Organization
    Urban Youth Empowerment Program - Urban League of Central Carolinas
