About the GoodWorks Youth Awards?

The 2011 GoodWorks Youth Awards will be held on Thursday, November 17 from 6-9pm at the Mint Museum uptown. The awards, an initiative of GoodWorks Media Group, honors high school youths for their good works in the area of education, diversity and the environment.

Criteria

Nominations will be accepted in three categories:

Environment—creating a better and more sustainable environment

Education– enhancing or developing effective educational efforts

Diversity—creating or sustaining initiatives that promote and advance the spirit and concept of diversity and inclusion

All nominees:

    1. Must live in Mecklenburg County

    2. Must be a current high school student

    3. Must have initiated the work being recognized

The initiatives:

  • Must be implemented between August 2010 and August 2011
  • Must not solely benefit a family member
  • Must have a demonstrable impact
  • Must be able to be replicated
  • Must be original

Judging

Nominations will be judged on the following:

  • Extent to which the project was designed, coordinated and implemented due to the young person's (or persons' ) initiative
  • Need for the project and appropriateness
  • Positive impact on the local community and society, and the long-term benefits derived from the project
  • Whether the goals were achieved
  • Positive ways in which other groups or individuals were involved to provide funds, resources, or publicity
  • Project innovation
  • Soundness of approach, rationale and scientific design (if applicable)

Finalists will be notified and the interviews will occur the week of October 17th.
